#17: Media Scales Like Code Now - @Balajis

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

The content you regularly publish acts as a magnet to attract like-minded people.

Building community across platforms has never been easier than it is today.

By finding your voice + sharing knowledge, you can have outsized positive impact.

Here are a couple things I've learned along the never ending journey. Hopefully they might be useful to those considering dialing up their content game.

  1. Give way more value than you take

    1. Super obvious, I know but keep in mind, the world doesn't need more content but the world does need better content, content curation etc.

    2. Especially when it's aligned to a niche's specific interests that you deeply understand. Optimize for building community through real relationships.

  2. Invest in finding people you really admire, watch / learn from them first

    1. Easiest way to get the ball rolling is to set-up a Twitter list with the top 100 most interesting people in your specific area of interest.

    2. Spend some time daily, reading their stuff, observing how they think, who they engage with / follow etc.

    3. That's how I found @balajis and his outrageously interesting Twitter feed. STRONGLY recommend he's on your Top 100 list for sure.

    4. Shoutout to Balajis as "Media scales like code now" comes from a Twitter thread he published on 1/8 .

  3. Find your voice

    1. This is kind of the digital equivalent of "If you want to get in shape, you have to go to the gym + lift weights.

    2. No one can do that for you."

    3. Start curating and/or creating content regularly.

    4. Yes, no one will respond at first.

    5. Yes, people might not value your content.

    6. Yes, people might challenge you.

    7. Yes, you'll be all good if you're coming from a good, informed place.

    8. Don’t overthink it, just get going.

Have faith in your magnet.

Trust the process.

This is the way.
