#21: Creator Economy? 'I'm Not a Businessman, I'm a Business Man.' - Jay-Z

Updated: Aug 16, 2021

According to Yuanling Yuan + Josh Constine, of VC firm SignalFire, there are 50M Creators. 46.7M amateurs and 2M+ professionals.

What's the difference between an "Influencer" + a "Creator"?

  1. Creators are SMB's 2.0

    1. They're digitally savvy, very good at something, move their audiences off platform and monetize the value they create through multiple revenue streams.

  2. Creators Scale via Internet + Digital Platform Leverage

    1. They build digital businesses with digital assets that don't have incremental costs of reproduction which enables them to scale without requiring a lot of human involvement.

  3. Creators Are Good At Minimizing "Platform Risk"

    1. They diversify their reliance on any single platform by cross-promoting which enables them to develop a more resilient operating model.

  4. Creators Recognize That There Are Riches In Niches

    1. By creating real value for audiences that will pay them directly, they can optimize for generating audience value vs generating ad supported media impressions.

  5. Creators Have Evolved From Entertainers To Founders

    1. They're real deal entrepreneurs who wake up every day and build their businesses brick-by-brick.

As this trend continues to evolve, pretty sure it's going to ensure that "Starving + Artist Should Never Go Together" which I’m all about.
