#70 Your audience is your IP - @Sloane Scott

Sloane Scott is a phenomenal thinker / doer around audience development.

A career that started by working alongside literal rockstars, data / technologists, agents, business managers, music labels etc will do that to you.

Today, she helps start-ups to F1000 executives develop their audience IP. Something more important now than ever before.

Micro Essay #70 is a synthesis of a 4 question, 20 minute Q+A session with my favorite rockstar:

1 - "Your audience is your IP".

Let that one sink in for a minute. The relationships you cultivate across platforms can alter the trajectory of your business. Never before has it been more important to cultivate your voice and relationships at scale using digital assets that compound.

2 - Heavy is the crown.

Developing your voice requires "intentional discipline to develop the muscle" and an "acceptance of an incredible amount of responsibility" that comes with leading from the front. Work like an artist, rockstar type stuff.

3 - "Trust is the new currency"

If you don't invest in your audience, there's going to be a disconnect between executives and the market. It's not the end of the world if you haven't / won't do it today, but if you don't do it, the disconnect could cause the market to scratch their heads. Then, when they see your competitors doing it, they might dig in a little deeper..."Buyers are smarter than ever."

4 - "Focus on what got you to where you are."

Getting into the arena isn't easy but step one, lean into your strengths. I love Sloane's approach focusing on getting to know people's passion and vision, both personally and professionally to help them develop their voice. "The thing you never want to lose in this process is the human side of it."

4 questions, 20 minutes, but would have loved to have gone on for another 200 minutes!
